Urges and surges

When you get the urge to do something, do you wonder where it comes from? Is it from a particular organ, a mix of chemicals, or from somewhere outside you, in the atmosphere?

I can't answer that question but I do know that there's something very mysterious and exciting about living your life intuitively and tapping into whatever-it-is that guides us through life. My partner, Lewis, and I are just about to move from Vancouver to southern Spain - all because of a kind of spontaneous vision. We often do guided visualizations as a way of tapping into new creative ideas; it's fun to see what comes to us on these guided journeys and it's always instructive, inspiring and, in this case, life-changing.

One wintry afternoon, I took Lewis through a visualization - more of a progression, really. We were thinking about the future and what changes we could make to bring more passion and creativity into our lives, so I led him to explore some potential future moment. He immediately saw a small coastal town in Spain and even got a name for it. He saw an old fishing port, he saw where the airport was located and he saw the roads behind it leading into the mountains. We got excited and looked up the name on Google. Not only did it exist but the configuration that Lewis had seen of the town's layout was exactly as it was in real life.

We began to explore the area using Google Earth and found ourselves being drawn more and more to this place. We loved the look of the coastline, which was surprisingly unspoilt, we loved the climate (320 days of sunshine a year!), and we loved the passion and vibrancy of the hot-blooded Spanish culture. Yet we had never considered living there, having imagined it to be horribly over-developed and ruined by tourism.

Two months later, we were planning our move.

Now, just a few weeks before our departure, I marvel again at the internal urges and messages that we get when it's time to move on. And I know it's right because every time I act on these impulses they produce a surge of energy and excitement that, in turn, opens doors and makes everything fall into place beautifully.

Something much bigger than us is at work here - and I like it! We don't need to be in control. In fact, it's much more exciting not to be and to know that it's all being perfectly handled and orchestrated for us. Provided we take some practical measures to fulfill our urges, we can just enjoy the adventure and let each new step unfold as it's meant to.

Nice. Who said life had to be difficult??
